I painted myself as the White Queen, based on Hathaway's intriguing commentary and a favorite photo of myself. The title is a double entendre. It refers to the warped perspective used in the painting itself, and the perspective that a person sees and is seen through.

I was going to scrap this painting because it was truly dreadful in the beginning stages. I couldn't get the composition or colors to work out properly, but I persevered. Now it's become my favorite and best painting to date. I'll post the steps of the painting in a little bit.

Critique welcome, but I won't be able to make corrections since this is a contest entry.

First, let me say that this is beautiful. I really like the soft, painted feel. The details and shading is superb, especially on the dress. It looks like gossamer or chiffon, and is very befitting of the White Queen. The checkered, Wonderland-esque floor is a nice touch.
But the thing that really stands out to me is the perspective. It's original and a little peculiar, ideal for a piece regarding Wonderland. I noticed that while the white roses on top on the picture frame are pristine, the roses on the bottom are being painted red. I think it's a really clever, subtle reference to the original animated Alice in Wonderland. (Recall, the playing cards were painting the white roses red.) But more than that, the White Queen is fighting to keep the darkness, the crimson chaos of her sister, at bay. And yet somewhere, as evident by the roses and the bit of red dress peeking out from beneath the frame, it's still part of her.
Anne Hathaway's quote really ties it all together, so I'm going to cite one of my own. I heard it from another lady on DeviantArt and know not if it's a genuine quote or one she created for herself, but I think it's perfect for your piece either way.

"Live in the light, know the darkness."
