Report a Policy Violation
For those who have many watchers, and for those who don’t have many, it is hard to know how one retains that interest as well as receive more. This article explores the basics of watchers and how we react to certain situations. Although it does not affect some deviants, and the tips are generally related to common sense, we hope the article is a worthwhile read and that the majority learn something from reading this.

Reports claim that the fish-like creature would leap from explosive lava with great agility and power. At times when volcanic eruptions are at their height, the beast will leap right into the fierce lightning bolts, as though feeding purely off their energy. No one knows what the creature is made of, for there is no known material able to withstand the heat of 30,000 degrees Celsius. It is said that the beast grants strange powers to those who see it, although there have been no records of these extraordinary instances. If you are lucky enough to see the Immaterial, you would already be burned to death by the heat." For  and  's contest: [link]This is a creature of the Element Fire. I enjoy entering contests with themes because they push me to do something new. I've never tried anything like this before and I did lots of research for this image. The Immaterial's scales are composed of a mixture of uranium dioxide (Wikipedia: [link]) and an unknown substance. This combination allows the Immaterial to swim through lava with ease. The unknown substance also makes up the spikes, which act like conductors to the lightning. At some points the Immaterial is so charged up with energy that it can release its own lightning. I did not directly reference the actual creature from anything, it was all from my head. However, the Immaterial is slightly based off the Mako shark, the fastest creature in the ocean. Fire is about power and speed, and what better describes power and speed than lava and lightning? I consider them to be the rawest forms of fire. Time: 25+ hours spent over course of a few days Tools: - Paint Tool SAI for sketch and texture - Corel Painter X for background and fish - Photoshop CS3 for detailing fish and texture ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hope you enjoy! It's much different from what I usually do. I must say that I really enjoyed painting with Painter, it works really well with SAI. The textures that came out with Painter's natural brushes were lovely.  Notice: I am going on vacation from 7/31 to 8/3, so I won't be able to answer comments at that time. When I get back I am writing a detailed walkthrough on how I made this image.  By the way, critique encouraged now! I'm off to sleep, it's 12:41 AM. Comments holy crap.
um... omg. you win. seriously, there's prolly no contest anymore  they're going to see it and end the contest right there... or they would if the deadline wasn't tomorrow anyway  i'd like to express my feeling for this picture by saying "i'm speechless", but that's boring so i'm going to keep talking  i'm freaking out, seriously i LOVE the lava, and the lightning, and the... gawd, everything the lighting is so beautiful, and i love how you incorporated both lightning and lava for fire. the form of the immaterial is brilliant, jumping out of the lava with its back so arched, it looks perfect. its fins are freaking amazing, and i love the contrast between the bright electric blue and the lava-red. and LOL, it kind of looks like he's glaring at your name again, good luck in the contest (my entry feels so boring now, LOL), although i think you've got this one in the bag definite fave -- "I don't have any ham or jam, so don't slam my yam!" Crap. It's fantastic. I have to say, there's just no other word to describe it. Fantastic is an understatement, actually. There's no word for it. I could honestly stare at it for such a long time. It's such a interesting piece... I get the image that the lightning is freezing the top of the monster (?), but with water trapped inside of it. And the flames look like waves, it's detailed in such an incredible way... If something like this can't make the front page, I am incredibly ashamed of deviantart. Best artwork I've seen all month, honestly. -- I've witnessed complete silence many times, and it's not silent at all. It's a ringing in your ears that keeps telling you that you're alone.   This is stunning! Mmm uranium oxide. Ah chemistry how we love you so. I love how you did the flames and the fins are just amazing. The lightning is nice and bright and doesn't burn anyone's eyes! YAY We had a thunderstrom this morning and oh my gosh the lightning was very bright! That fish looking at your name down there at the bottom as if it wants to eat it for a midnight snack. -- (\\ /) ( . .) c(\")(\") World Domination made easy 98% of all people think it\'s cool to put a statistic in their sig, if you\'re one of the 2%... wait... shit.  This is so beautiful Akanei, the flow of the colors and the fierceness of the creature is intense! The way the lava flows with the body is great because you've really given the reality that the lava and it are one. To put it simply, its perfect!
