Artist's Comments

Hey guys, these are screenshots of + TRANSCENDENCE +.

Note that this is my first time doing a completely lineless drawing (just on top of a sketch, blocking in colors), so the process may not be the best for technical aspects.

Hope this allows you to sort of see one way I work. :)

Wow now we get a real look into the path it takes to get to your work! It looks like a difficult one, but judjing by the product it comes out very well!

Very nice! Do you have any suggestions for painting like this? I so badly want to know how to do it. Like, what kind of brush you used, a tutorial, etc.

Curse that double post...

Oh wow, kinda late reply. I assume I accidentally deleted this from my inbox. ^^; So sorry!

Thanks, and the process is actually just very messy, not really difficult by any means. I make a lot of adjustments along the way, and most of it is spontaneous, but I'm usually satisfied with the end product when I do random crap to it along the way. :D

It's called constructive criticism.

Thanks, and of course. :) If you still remember my Month series lol (it's been awhile), I'm making a highly detailed tutorial for how I complete October, along with theory and concepts with it. If you check my journal, I ask if there was something specific you wanted to see in that tutorial, so that can be arranged. :)

For this drawing specifically, I basically only used the first 5 types of basic Photoshop brushes. The default flat one, for filling in, the slightly fuzzier one, the two really great oil-pastely brushes after them, and then the really fuzzy ones afterward.

My settings are always with size+opacity checked, and then I just fiddle with the opacity and shape of brush (in the dynamics box I like to mess with the hardness). The two middle brushes tend to paint with an oil feeling, great for blending harder edges. After the harder edges are done, I take some fuzzier brushes and make some areas softer (like on the feathers and wings)

My process is really simple: Scribble flats with default brush/block in colors, then blend with the two oily brushes, and touch up on soft areas with the fuzzy ones.

One other trick I use is to take the semi-fuzzy brush and change the hardness to 80%, it blends super well and smoothly then, while also retaining a tiny fuzz radius.

I hope that helps!

All right, I will definitely check that out. :)

Thank you so much for the tips! They really help.

I know I'll sound really thick, but at least after sounding thick once I should understand things once and for all... You know when you say 'blend' -- what exactly do you mean?

*runs and hides from shame*

If you're wondering wth is wrong with my icon pic, well, I painted it myself. That's the simple reason.
